Area Sports Briefs: Catawba football releases practice schedule

Catawba’s football team will report Monday morning to begin preseason work with meetings and testing.

The Catawba Indians are scheduled to take the field for the first time on Tuesday morning in helmets for a 9:30 practice.

The team will add pads to practice on Aug.  9 and  practice with full gear for the first time on Aug. 11.

All practices are open to the public.

Local golf

Thirty-four GARS members played at the Revival at the Crescent.

Low ‘A’ Flight winner was Larry Petrea with a net of 66.62.

Low ‘B’ Flight player was Franklin Ford with a net of 65.92.

Low ‘C’ Flight player was John Cress with a net of 65.71.

Low ‘D’ Flight player was Ralph Luther with a net of 61.71.

Larry Petrea shot a 72 for low gross, and Ralph Luther shot low net.

In a Corbin Hills Women’s Golf Association Low Net, Blind Partners event,  Becky Isenhour and Bev Cobb took first place.

Spencer Fall Ball

Spencer Cal Ripken League fall baseball and tee ball registration for boys and girls (ages 4-12) will be held  at Ellis Park through Aug. 3 during park hours and at the Eighth Street Ballpark on Aug. 4 from 11 until 1.

Tee ball, machine pitch, minors and majors leagues are $60.

Aug. 4 is the last day to register. Games start on Aug. 10.

Intimidators

The Kannapolis Intimidators were rained out on Tuesday and will play two games at Augusta tonight.

Wood bat leagues

The Mooresville Spinners swept the Concord Athletics in the championship series of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League.
