‘Avenue Q’ opens tonight
“Avenue Q” is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart. The laugh-out-loud musical tells of recent college grad Princeton, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q and discovers that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates and their ever-elusive purpose in life.
Although it is similar to a beloved children’s show, “Avenue Q” addresses humorous adult issues. It is place where puppets are friends, Monsters are good and life lessons are learned. The show is filled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score.

Celebrity Car & Truck Show Saturday at the NC Transportation Museum

SPENCER — The NC Transportation Museum’s newest auto show features the car stars from your favorite television shows and movies. These replicas of the originals will bring back great memories and offer great photo opportunities.
The cars will be on display from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, at the NC Transportation Museum, 1 Samuel Spencer Drive.

‘Mentors and Heroes’ — The photography of David Holt
SPENCER — The photography of musician, storyteller, radio and television host and photographer David Holt will be on display in a special exhibition at the North Carolina Transportation Museum through Sept. 3.
“Mentors and Heroes” includes more than 30 framed black and white portraits of Holt’s many musical mentors and heroes from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Among those photographed are Doc Watson, with whom Holt traveled and performed for years.
The exhibit also includes several instruments from Holt’s personal collection.
The exhibit will be displayed in the Master Mechanic’s office, just behind the gift station. Free with regular admission.

Pinto Stampede 2018 culminates in Concord
