Today: ‘Ministry Made Simple’
KANNAPOLIS — Breath of God Ministerial Alliance presents “Ministry Made Simple,” a six-week course beginning today, teaching basic methods and procedures of ministry. The classes are at 10 a.m. each Saturday through Aug. 11. Bring your Bible, a pad and a pen.

Bethel Evangelical
At the 10:30 a.m. service at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 355 East Ridge Road, scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year will be awarded. In addition, Allison Blackwell will speak about her upcoming missions trip to Bosnia. A free will offering will be taken in support of Allison.

First Calvary celebrates anniversary
On Sunday, First Calvary Baptist Church, 400 S. Long St., will celebrate the 34th anniversary of Pastor Rev. Dr. Leamon E. Brown at the 11 a.m. service. There will be praise and worship by First Calvary’s Brown Family as well as a drama based on “Come, Grab Hold of a Corner.”
Rev. Brown joined First Calvary in the 1970s while a student at Livingstone College. He served as assistant pastor in 1978 and after being ordained in 1980 by the Rowan Baptist Association. He was interim pastor from 1980-1984, when he was installed as senior pastor.
Rev. Brown is retired from Rowan Cabarrus Community College where he was a faculty member for more than 30 years.
He is a member the Salisbury Ministerial Alliance, Salisbury Rowan County Missionary Union, the NAACP and the Rowan Baptist Association.

Women’s Day at New Zion Baptist
Women’s Day will be observed at New Zion Baptist Church, 2785 Dunn’s Mountain Road, on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Dress color is pastel.
Tracy Ellis is the morning speaker. Minister Ellis is an associate minister at Word of Life Family Worship Center, as well as Sunday school teacher, children’s ministry teacher, prayer and ministry room worker and Armor Bearer to the pastor, Dr. Martha Starks. She is a Biblical Studies graduate from the Institute of Biblical Studies in Lynchburg, Va..
The 3 p.m. speaker is Lady Leah McNair. Lady McNair has facilitated workshops and preached conferences in Liberia and Montreal. She has been the featured “Preaching Woman of the Month” on Preaching Woman International. She and her husband, Rev. P. Michael McNair, are co-pastors of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Thomasville. She is the author of three books.

Special music at First UCC
First United Church of Christ, 207 W. Horah St., is pleased to have Flo Peck, Winnie and Dan Mikkelson present special music at the worship service on Sunday. Flo, Winnie and Dan are members of First UCC and also active in the wider Salisbury community. Rev. Carol Hallman is host pastor.

Dinner sale at Mt. Calvary
Mt. Calvary Holy Church, 1401 Standish St., will host a dinner sale on Sunday from noon-4 p.m.
Choose grilled chicken, grilled turkey BBQ, grilled BBQ ribs, two sides, dinner roll, homemade cake and drink. All proceeds will support the youth and young adult department.

Immanuel Lutheran BLITZ
ROCKWELL — Instead of one BLITZ (Bring Lots of Items to Zap…) Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran during July, the congregation and children attending VBS are asked to bring cans of fruit during the entire month of July for Organ Community Outreach Ministries (no applesauce).

Jehovah’s Witnesses convention
WINSTON-SALEM — Jehovah’s Witnesses will hold a series of four conventions at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. All may attend. The conventions are July 13-15 and 20-22 in English; July 27-29 and Aug. 17-19 in Spanish, beginning at 9:20 a.m. each day. There is no admission fee. See www.jw.org
