I’d like to thank Catherine Terwilliger for the article appearing in the Salisbury Post on motorcycle safety (“Motorcycle advocates share safety tips during Motorcycle Awareness Month,” in the May 31 Post.) I ride both a motorcycle and pedal bike. The debris people put on the roadways is extremely dangerous for both kinds of bikes.

To me it is a form of littering, only hazardous. It produces an ice-like surface and can cause you injury or even death.

I have several neighbors in my development who routinely blow their grass clippings in the road every week. If it rains, the grass clippings’ surface becomes very slippery.

I’ve had an accident on my pedal bike and spent three days in the hospital with fractured ribs and a tube up my side to prevent a lung from collapsing. I know firsthand the danger of going down on a hard service at 20 miles an hour.

I hope people will read this article and be considerate enough to blow their clippings in their own yards. Please feel free to share this article will anyone you may know who is creating this hazard on our roadways.
