Letter: Earlier immigrants did it the right way

I’m amazed at the number of people who espouse the emotional side of the immigration issue using party talking points instead of looking at the whole picture.

Than you, Dr. Ada Fisher, for your article on the rest of the issue (“It’s not just about children,” on Sunday’s editorial page).

One point that I am tired of hearing is, “We were all immigrants.” What is the rest of that story? My ancestors came here legally through Ellis Island, were documented, given a health check and turned loose to fend for themselves without government assistance.

I do hope the politicians will act to bring sanity to this issue before we have another civil war. Organizers and politicians have fomented division to gain political advantage. God save America.
