Area Sports Briefs: Intimidators lose on road; Carson Junior Legion wins

SALISBURY, Md. — Brenan Hanifee allowed just three hits over eight innings, leading the Delmarva Shorebirds over the Kannapolis Intimidators in a 4-0 win on Saturday.
Hanifee (6-3) picked up the win after he struck out four.
The Intimidators were blanked for the fifth time this season, while the Shorebirds’ staff recorded their eighth shutout of the year.
Junior Legion
Carson won against West Rowan, 9-2, on Saturday in a conference game.
Cole Hales had three hits, while Caden Hudson and Tyler Thompson had two each.
Deacon Wike pitched four innings and got relief help from Dylan Driver and Hales.
Josh Allman had two doubles for West, while Andrew Kennerly had one.
Carson (15-2, 3-2) hosts Concord tonight at 7 p.m.

Legion baseball
Greensboro beat Kernersville in a Northern Division game on Saturday, 5-3.
Bennett Nooe homered for Greensboro, while Kain Kiser homered for Kernersville.
Bryce Amarillo was the winning pitcher.

Surging Kannapolis (9-5, 6-0) hosts Concord tonight in a Southern Division of Area III game.
Legion softball
Rowan County (3-4) returns to action against Kannapolis (2-5) on Tuesday at East Rowan High.
Game time is 7 p.m. The format is two five-inning doubleheaders.
Concord is in first place with a 6-2 record.
Minor leagues
Jerry Sands (Catawba) belted his 11th homer of the season for Richmond on Saturday.
Sands, who also swatted his 16th double, is batting .239 with 34 RBIs.
