Area Sports Briefs: Kannapolis Legion stays unbeaten in division

The Kannapolis American Legion baseball team won its sixth straight division game on Friday, outscoring Mooresville, 11-6.
Rohan Handa and Lane Argabright had three hits each. Handa homered.
Jason White pitched a complete game.

Randolph County Post 45 accepted six walks in the bottom of the first inning and went on to rout Winston-Salem, 16-0, in a Northern Division game on Friday.
Winston-Salem hurlers walked 16 in the contest. Bryce Marsh hit a three run homer for Randolph.
Prep basketball
North Rowan AD Ben Hampton announced the hires of new varsity boys basketball head coach Jason Causby and new varsity girls basketball head coach Lamar Wilkerson.
Causby, who had some great years at Salisbury High, coached Mallard Creek last season.
Wilkerson is a North Rowan grad with a lot of coaching experience, mostly in Winston-Salem. He’s currently a teacher at North Rowan Middle.

Cole Perry, a rising senior at Carson and the only returning starter on the boys basketball team, suffered a knee injury recently.
He sais surgery is scheduled for July 2. Perry had been having a huge summer in AAU basketball.
He’ll miss at least part of his senior season. His goal is to return to action in the Christmas tournament.
Intimidators
SALISBURY, Md. — Nolan Brown hit a run-scoring double in the fifth inning, leading the Kannapolis Intimidators to a 3-1 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Friday.
Aron McRee got Kirvin Moesquit to hit into a double play with runners on second and third to end the game for his second save of the season.
The double by Brown capped a two-run inning and gave the Intimidators a 2-1 lead after Carlos Perez hit an RBI double earlier in the inning.
Kannapolis lefty Parker Rigler (4-3) picked up the win after allowing one run on five hits in six innings.
College baseball
Ike Freeman (East Rowan) had a big finish in the NCAA tournament and hit .305 as a sophomore. Freeman had 68 hits, including three homers. He scored 37 runs and drove in 51, third-best total on the team.
Junior Legion
Carson rolled against Lexington, 13-1, on Friday and is 15-2. West Rowan plays at Carson tonight at 7 in a conference matchup.

Dylan Upright struck out seven in West Rowan’s 13-1 win against Statesville on Thursday.
Wood bat leagues
Jackson Raper (Catawba) hit a grand slam and had five RBIs for the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks in a 16-4 win against Worcester in the Futures Collegigate Baseball League on Friday.
Bryan Ketchie (West Rowan, Catawba) got the win and is 2-0.
Legion softball
Rowan County (3-4) returns to action against Kannapolis (2-5) on Tuesday at East Rowan High.
Game time is 7 p.m. The format is two five-inning doubleheaders.
Concord is in first place with a 6-2 record.
