The Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Auxiliary recognized its 82nd anniversary with a Membership Celebration at the home of Charlotte Hall on Thursday, May 10. Georgia McCorkle, Auxiliary president, welcomed the members and their invited guests to the annual event.

The Auxiliary was established in 1936 to “meet the needs of the sick in the community, to assist with the furnishings of the hospital and the landscaping of the grounds.”
Mrs. Gettys Guile served as the first Auxiliary president and membership socials were initially hosted at the nursing school that was located on the corner of Confederate and Mahaley Avenues.

Since that time, the Auxiliary has evolved into many areas of the medical center and donated hundreds of thousands of dollars and hours to various projects in the community and medical center. The gift shop, the Tree of Hope project at Christmas, various sales, and contributions are a major source of funding.
This year’s membership committee includes Judy Ann Deal, Chair, Carolyn Hood, Barbara Waggoner, Zandra Spencer and Barbara Teichroew.

The Auxiliary is open to all members of the community who would like to volunteer. For more information, call Diane Hundley at 704-210-5082.
