SALISBURY – The Salisbury VA Health Care System ended National Nurses Week with a ceremony last Friday on the Salisbury campus.
This year’s theme for National Nurses Week was “Nurses Inspire, Innovate, Influence.” The week highlighted the contributions nurses make daily in health care across the nation.
Top nurses on the staff were recognized with awards during the ceremony.
Award winners were:
• Melissa Yost, primary care, Registered Nurse of the Year in a staff role.
• Shawn Tyler, assistant chief nurse for acute care, Nurse of the Year in an expanded role.
• Dreama Jones, Kernersville Health Care Center,– Licensed Practical Nurse of the Year.
• Tara Fulton, Salisbury VA Community Living Center, Nursing Assistant of the Year.
Hospital director Joseph Vaughn said the nurses are a testament to the hard work and dedication that all VA nurses put forth on a daily basis.
“I have been immensely impressed as I continue to meet with our nursing staff, and I am proud to recognize these four nurses for leading the way in excellence and commitment in the care they provide to the veterans we serve,” Vaughn said. “As we say in the Navy, ‘Bravo Zulu!’ (great job!)”
