Bostian Elementary

The following students were named Citizens of the Month for the month of April:

Kindergarten: Trysta Overcash, Grayson Weatherby, Madeline Griffin, Wyatt Blackwelder, Austin Foy and Aubrey Kerr.

First grade: Noelani Angeles, Rebecca Beaver, Maddox Honeycutt, Lilykaye Sandusky, Carson Gordon and Abby Forstrom.

Second grade: Laci Peeler, Curtis Furr, Paisley Eller, Tyler Gardner, Nicholas Reynolds and McKinley Mullis.

Third grade: Omar Vazquez, Landon Allman, Ethan Eddings, Aleah McCallum, Aydan Lee and Gage Marcum.

Fourth grade: Grayson Helms, Aubrey McLemore, Gracie Bloom and Colson Pless.

Fifth grade: Christian Wheeler, Gracin Craig, Skylar Bowen, Hayden Conklin, Jayden Myrick, Gage McKnight and Race Johnson.

Faith Elementary

Students from Faith Elementary helped raise $3,338 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The schoolwide fundraiser ran from April 23 to April 27 and was in memory of Rodney Brown, Charlie Miller and Carl Doby. Students engaged in a “penny war,” facilitated by the school’s 4-H club, to raise money with spare change.

Penny War winners were: Buffey Klein’s kindergarten class and Carie Hayworth’s third-grade class. Ashley Agner’s fifth-grade class collected the most pennies. These three classes were rewarded with a pizza party, and students in every class that participated received popsicles.

North Greenville University

Thomas Foust Allen of Rockwell graduated with his master of business administration degree from North Greenville University on April 28.

Brevard College

The following local students made the spring 2018 Dean’s List: Holly Michael, Hannah Elmore and Chloe McGee.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours and have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Local students Margaret Correll and Michael Anton made the spring 2018 honor roll. Students who qualify for the honor roll must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours and have a GPA of 3.0 to 3.49.

Rowan County teacher to study in China

A Rowan-Salisbury Schools teacher has received an award to participate in Go Global NC’s Global Teachers annual professional development program.

Anthony Johnson, a fourth- and fifth-grade science and social studies teacher at H.D. Isenberg Elementary School, will participate in the Global Teachers China 2018 program this summer as a member of a delegation of 35 teachers from across North Carolina.

Johnson received a 2018 Southwest Education Alliance award to support his participation in the Global Teachers program as the 2017 Southwest Regional Teacher of the Year.

Go Global NC’s Global Teachers China 2018 program will allow participants to:

• Gain insight into the country’s history, culture, and physical environment.

• Learn about conservation efforts to protect rare animals and environment.

• Explore how China’s educators use technology in their classrooms.

• Study alternative education as a method of building a ready workforce.
