Update – Severe thunderstorm watch Rowan weather: Getting hotter

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR ROWAN COUNTY.

We have just a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, but some of those storms may become strong to severe, with large hail and damaging wind gusts. Most of the storms will be after 3 p.m.

It will be partly sunny and hot today, with a high of 85 and southwest wind at 6-13 mph, gusting to 20 mph. Thunderstorms will have stronger winds. A tenth to quarter inch of rain is possible, with higher amounts in thunderstorms.

Tonight, the 30 percent chance of showers and storms will be mostly before 8 p.m. The low will be 59, with west southwest wind at 5-7 mph, calming after midnight. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Friday will have some patchy fog before 9 a.m., then it will become sunny and warmer, with a high of 87. Winds will be north northwest at 5 mph. Friday night will be partly cloudy and 64.

Saturday will be mostly sunny and 91, so you may want to get your outdoor activities done early. Southwest wind around 5 mph is possible in the afternoon. The low will be 66 under partly cloudy skies.

Sunday, Mother’s Day, will be sunny and 92. The low will be 67.

Monday will be mostly sunny and 90. A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is possible Monday night, with a low of 66.

Tuesday’s chance of showers will be 40 percent, but it will be partly sunny and 86. The chance of rain drops to 30 percent Tuesday night, with a low of 66 again.

Wednesday will have a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms and will be mostly cloudy and cooler, with a high of 81.
