SALISBURY — The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education will hold a called meeting Thursday afternoon to discuss teacher leave for May 16.

On that day, teachers from across the state plan to attend a protest in Raleigh to push for better pay and better working conditions.

Several districts have declared the day a teacher workday or are allowing teachers to take an annual leave day. Those include Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Durham, Chapel Hill-Carrboro, Wake County and Guilford County.

The RSS board’s Thursday meeting is to discuss options for local teachers.

The meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. in the Wallace Educational Forum board room, 500 N. Main St.
