102-year-old Dr. Mattie P. Roberts recently traveled from New York to Salisbury to meet with her son, Rev. Robert A. Roberts, and her sister, 100-year-old Elizabeth Jackson, who traveled from Thomasville.
Dr. Mattie holds an honorary doctorate in education. She is the mother of 9 children, five of whom are still living and one, Rev. Roberts, lives in Salisbury.
