Bidding: most complicated and most important
Bidding is our only way to communicate with our partner, and as opponents, our way to size up the competition. As a partnership, we need to determine if we have a fit and enough points for game. If there are not enough points for game, rule one is keep the bidding as low as possible. There is no incentive to bid 3 of a suit if one or two will do. A bid of 1 making 3 scores the same but getting too high unnecessarily, gives points to your opponents. Again, it is important to be aware of vulnerability. If early on, no fit is found, 1NT may be fine but higher could be risky.
Another challenge is finding a partner. To help with this problem, our Unit has added a Partnership Desk function to their website. Go to www.CCBAUnit169.org, click on Partnership Desk and follow instructions. Enter 7NTxxx and continue. Sign up for the function. When you get to the “create a post,” list your name, number of MPs, game place and time, your e-mail and phone so prospects can contact you. Keep checking and good luck.
