KANNAPOLIS — Rowan County authorities say two Iredell County men were charged with drug possession after a traffic stop in Kannapolis.

On Friday, officers with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Reduction Unit stopped a white Crown Victoria at Smith and Enochville School roads.

The driver, Jeffery Kent Little, 32, of Mooresville, admitted he had a suspended license. The passenger, Xavier Antwone Blackwood, 29, of Statesville, provided deputies with a North Carolina ID that did not belong to him.

Blackwood eventually gave authorities his name. Officials said Blackwood was wanted for a drug violation in South Carolina.

A sheriff’s dog indicated suspicious activity, and the men and their vehicle were searched.

Officers found a small quantity of marijuana on Jeffery Little. Deputies found a black bag concealed on Blackwood that contained 37 grams of marijuana, 24 grams of cocaine and 11 grams of heroin.

Blackwood was charged with trafficking in heroin, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and being a fugitive from justice.

Blackwood remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $250,000 secured bond.

Authorities say Blackwood has six previous felony convictions in state court on drug and firearms charges. He also has a federal conviction for maintaining a premise in violation of drug laws.

Little was charged with possession of marijuana and placed under a $2,500 bond. He has since been released.

Little has a previous conviction for selling a controlled substance.
