The West Rowan High School Class of 1968 will hold its 50th reunion Saturday at Historic Salisbury Station.

The reunion will start at 6 p.m. It will include dinner, music, door prizes from local businesses and recognition of class members, including a tribute to military veterans.

“A lot of them have served the country, I will tell you that,” said class member Linda Holshouser. “We are sort of proud of that. We’re going to make them feel appreciated.”

Numerous classmates are flying in or driving to Rowan County and making a vacation around the reunion date. Close to 125 people (including spouses) already are committed.

The West Rowan High senior class in 1968  had 156 graduates. Most of the senior class officers will be in attendance.

“Yes, it was the best, truly the best,” Holshouser said. “Of course, everybody would say their class is the best.”

A tour of the present-day West Rowan High School is being offered to 1968 class members at 10 a.m. Saturday.

“There are quite a few who really want to go back and see the changes,” Holshouser said.

Since graduation, the Class of 1968 has tried to gather every five years. This 50th reunion “probably will be one of the biggest ones we’ve had,” Holshouser said.

“It will be a lot of fun,” she added.
