SALISBURY — A Michigan man was charged this weekend with assaulting a man whom he hitched a ride with from California.

Police say the two argued about a cellphone and the dispute became physical.

Bryan Eric Mims, 34, was charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, felony larceny, misdemeanor resisting or obstructing an officer, misdemeanor communicating threats, and misdemeanor injury to personal property.

Salisbury Police Department officials said the driver picked Mims up in California and the two ended their ride at the Food Lion warehouse, 2085 Harrison Road.

Mims was arrested there, police said.

Mims remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $15,000 secured bond.
