Jonathan Thomas “JT” Bost, a China Grove native and popular sports umpire, was killed in a Saturday collision while heading home from a baseball game.

Bost was traveling at 6:41 p.m. on northbound Interstate 85 about a half mile north of Archdale in Guilford County behind a tractor-trailer, according to reports.

The tractor-trailer slowed for traffic in a work zone. Bost, driving a Honda sport utility vehicle, was not able to reduce his speed in time and crashed into the tractor-trailer from behind.

Bost was most recently a teacher of honors chemistry at Mooresville High School. He had previously taught at Salisbury High School.

He was an umpire for high school sports and college baseball in Rowan and surrounding counties.
