More area briefs: Good showing by South in track meet

MIDWAY — South Rowan’s track teams competed against Oak Grove, North Davidson and Thomasville on Thursday.

North Davidson swept the meet.

South’s boys placed third. Ari Moya won the 800, while Noah Julian took the 3200. South also won the 4×800.

South’s girls placed second.  Madison Lowery won the 1600 and 3200. Jahleah Butler won the discus. Janiya Downs took the long jump.

 

Prep soccer

CONCORD — West Rowan lost to Concord, 2-1, in a non-conference match on Thursday,

Ryley Corriher made 13 saves.

Rustyn Orbison scored the West goal with Chloe Patterson assisting.

 

Prep softball

MOCKSVILLE — Davie County clobbered R.J. Reynolds 15-0 and 17-1 in a Central Piedmont Conference doubleheader on Thursday.

Bridgett Tierney went 3-for-3 in the first game, and River Simpson pitched the three-inning shutout.

Sierra Ferguson went 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the second game.

Hickory Ridge star Jiera Shears signed with University of Detroit Mercy.

 

College football

Zion DeBose (North Rowan), who redshirted last season at Virginia Tech, is having a good spring for the Hokies.
