Early-morning chase ends in high-speed accident

SALISBURY — Salisbury police officers were led on a high-speed chase Thursday morning by three suspects in vehicle break-ins.

The driver of a white 2010 Honda Accord led police from Sunset Drive onto Jake Alexander Boulevard. The driver, identified as Eugene Green of Charlotte, crashed into the retaining wall just across from Knox Middle School on West Park Drive.

Police estimate the car was going 80 mph when Green lost control.

Responding officers said that stolen items and burglary tools were recovered from the wrecked vehicle.

According to the report, the chase began after police received an early-morning call reporting that someone was breaking into cars at Crown Point Luxury Apartment Complex off Sunset Drive.

The caller said suspects had left Crown Point and turned right out of the parking lot. A police officer spotted a car matching the description of the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of Alexander Station Apartments.

The officer discovered that the license plate on the car stolen. He tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused.

Green’s leg was broken from the force of the impact, and he was taken to the hospital. His charges are pending, and arrest warrants will be served when he is out of the hospital.

Responding officers said two other suspects fled.
