A Mooresville man who is a registered sex offender has been charged for having multiple social-media accounts, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Shane Williams, 47, of 117 Doyle Farm Lane, Mooresville, was arrested March 7 for failure to notify authorities of online identifiers.

On March 5, the Sheriff’s Office received information that Williams had multiple Facebook accounts. The information was forwarded to the Sex Offender Verification Unit and assigned to Deputy J. Adams.

During this investigation, Adams found five accounts that were linked to Williams. Adams checked Williams’ sex-offender registration file to see if any of the accounts were filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. Adams discovered that Williams had not registered any online identifiers in this paperwork, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Williams was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and placed under a $25,000 secured bond.

Williams was placed on the sex offender registry on Jan. 7, 2015, after a conviction for second-degree rape.

His criminal history includes three counts of misdemeanor larceny, two counts of driving while impaired, misdemeanor first-degree trespassing, felony second-degree rape, and felony common law robbery.
