Joe Williams of Faith provided this 1956 photo of Granite Quarry High School band director Lou Bean hoisted on the shoulders of students Jason Parks, left, and Richard Sellers. The Granite Quarry band had just received a ‘Superior’ award in the N.C. high school band competition held at Woman’s College in Greensboro (today’s UNC-Greensboro). Daisy Drury Bost is the girl at right. Bean would go on to direct bands at Hickory High and A.L. Brown High in Kannapolis.
