Granite Quarry town board will hold budget retreat Friday, Saturday

GRANITE QUARRY — The Granite Quarry Board of Aldermen will conduct its annual budget retreat Friday and Saturday at Town Hall, 141 N. Salisbury Ave.

The sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, with a break for lunch from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until after 1 p.m. Saturday, with a lunch period from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Here are some of the scheduled discussions and presentations over the two days:

Friday

• 9:15-10:15 a.m.: Departmental reports from fire, police, maintenance and administration.

• 10:15-10:30 a.m.: Feedback and questions.

• 10:45-11:15 a.m.: Presentation from town clerk on transparency, board packets and closed sessions.

• 11:15-11:45 a.m.: Presentation from town manager on Town Hall renovations, including the history and process.

• 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.: Presentation from the town engineer on stormwater regulations, along with a downtown case study.

• 1:30-2:45 p.m.: Guest presentations from Salisbury-Rowan Utilities on a water and sewer plan, from Town Manager Phil Conrad on code enforcement inventory and from Town Planner Steve Blount on a comprehensive plan strategy.

• 3:15-3:45 p.m.: Blount will go over downtown development, including a case study of the town square.

• 3:45-4:15 p.m.: A review of town procedures, including fees, charges and salary schedules.

Saturday

• 9:15-10:30 a.m.: Setting goals and priorities, including highlights of projects for 2018-19 and looking at funding, revitalization, environmental questions and government structure.

• 10:30-11 a.m.: Capital projects goal-setting.

• 1 p.m.: Statement from the mayor, followed by board comments.
