J.C. Smith thumps Livingstone women, 81-49

CHARLOTTE — J.C. Smith defeated Livingstone, 81-49, here Wednesday evening in CIAA women’s basketball action.

The loss was the ninth straight for Livingstone, now 5-13 overall and 0-8 in the conference. The Golden Bulls improved to 12-6 and 4-3.

After trailing by just 15-11 after one quarter, J.C. Smith essentially blew out the Blue Bears with a 30-8 second period.

Livingstone trailed at halftime, 45-19, after making just 5-of-29 shots from the floor and 1-of-12 from the 3-point arc. Malia Rivers and Jamia Johnson came off the bench with 15 and 12 first-half points, respectively, for the Bulls.

The Blue Bears’ dreadful shooting continued in the second half and they finished the game with a 2-for-23 mark from the 3-point line. Overall, Livingstone shot just 24 percent for the game (15-of-62).

Kyala Searcy led Livingstone with 10 points, followed by Taylor Perkins with nine and eight points each from Asia Green, Kedra Bradley and I’Keya Bland.

Livingstone returns to action on Saturday with a home game against St. Augustine’s. Tip-off at New Trent Gym is scheduled for 2 p.m.
