From staff reports

WALLBURG — Salisbury’s boys  basketball team remained undefeated with a 66-48 Central Carolina Conference win over Ledford on Tuesday night.

Salisbury (5-0 overall and in the CCC) led pretty much the entire way, taking a 49-31 lead into the fourth quarter. Coach Bryan Withers cleared his bench in the final period but still maintained the 18-point lead.

“We were solid,” said Withers. “I see us continue to get better in most phases of the game and our pressure defense was really good at times. The kids are starting to understand how to play for each other instead of being selfish out on the court.”

Oshaun Robinson led the Hornets with 13 points, followed by 10 from Bill Fisher. Elijah Moss and Xavier Kesler each added eight points.

Ledford (2-4, 2-3 CCC) was led by Walker Lackey with 19 points and Chad Dorrill with 13.

Carson boys win

CHINA GROVE — Carson’s boys basketball team shook off a sluggish start and foul trouble to Owen White and pounded Central Cabarrus, 90-67,  to stay unbeaten.

The Cougars (6-0) got 32 points from Jamarius Hairston and 25 from Jailen Williams. Both players were one point shy of their career highs. Carson also fell one point short of the school  team scoring record.

“We turned it over and missed some easy shots and Owen sat for a long time,”   Carson coach Brian Perry said. “But we cleaned things up in the second half and played pretty well. Jailen and Jamarius did a good job on the glass and in transition, and A.J. Jackson gave us a lift with his defense.”

CHINA GROVE —  Carson’s girls basketball team lost the lead in the fourth quarter but rallied to beat Central Cabarrus, 49-38,  for a non-conference win on Tuesday.

“Central Cabarrus played hard and did a good job of making us uncomfortable,” Carson coach Brooke Misenheimer said. “We didn’t play very well until the very end, but we did a great job in the last two minutes.”

Olivia Gabriel scored 19 for the Cougars. She made two 3-pointers and was 7-for-8 at the foul line in the final quarter.

McKenzie Gadson came back from an ankle injury to score 10. Colbie Perry scored nine.

“Colbie also had two big offensive rebounds on missed free throws that gave us extra possessions,” Misenheimer said.

Carson didn’t shoot free throws well and didn’t rebound well, but it found a way to get another victory.

“Central is scrappy and physical and it was hard to play the tempo we wanted,” Misenheimer said. “But we finished the game strong.”
