Pfeiffer University senior honored for community service
MISENHEIMER — Pfeiffer University student Mandee Schaub has been recognized for outstanding leadership and service by North Carolina Campus Compact, a statewide network of colleges and universities with a shared commitment to civic engagement.
Schaub is a recipient of the network’s Community Impact Award, which honors a student leader at each school.
Schaub is one of 23 students selected for the 2017 honor, joining more than 250 college students recognized by the network since the award was first presented in 2006.
As Pfeiffer’s community garden coordinator, Schaub has worked to engage external groups so Pfeiffer students can volunteer alongside community members on garden workdays. As a worship team leader, she coordinates chapel services and associated activities.
Finally, in leading the Angel Tree project, she directs a team of students who collect and distribute holiday gifts and plan a holiday party for 80 local children.
Schaub is a sophomore from Albemarle who is majoring in biology and music.
Schaub was also nominated by President Colleen Keith to be Pfeiffer’s Newman Civic Fellow. The fellowship is a program of the national Campus Compact organization, headquartered in Boston.
Schaub and other Community Impact Award recipients were honored at the Compact’s annual student conference, held this year on Nov. 18 at Winston-Salem State University. The conference convened more than 230 students and staff members from 28 campuses.
North Carolina Campus Compact is a statewide coalition of 37 public, private, and community colleges and universities that share a commitment to civic and community engagement. The network was founded in 2002 and is hosted by Elon University.
The organization is an affiliate of the national Campus Compact, which has 1,000 member schools representing nearly 2 million college students.
