Yesterday: Remembering Eugene McCombs

In this photograph from the Salisbury Post files, N.C. Rep. Eugene McCombs walks toward the Legislative Building in Raleigh in 1993, his first year as a state legislator. McCombs represented Rowan County in the N.C. House from 1993 until his death in 2004. McCombs, a lifetime resident of Faith, served on the Faith town board from 1948 to 1961, including two years as mayor. Over the next 30 years, McCombs served on the Rowan County Board of Commissioners multiple times, including 10 years as the board’s chairman. A portion of Faith Road was named in McCombs’ honor in 2015. McCombs and his brother Verne were longtime grocers in Faith.
