Letter: Veteran grateful for signs of appreciation

Published 10:54 pm Sunday, December 3, 2017

My wife and I were at the Longhorn restaurant celebrating our 26-year anniversary. There were four gentlemen sitting at the table behind me, and when they left they asked me if I was a veteran. I replied, yes, and they thanked me for my service. They told me that they had paid for my lunch. I think them profusely, for it was a great gesture.

When my wife and I were leaving the restaurant, another gentleman stood up and thanked me for my service. I thanked him also.

These were most definitely different reactions than when I return from Vietnam 50 years ago. I am so thankful that people appreciate the servicemen today rather than the way our veterans were treated in the ’60s.

Gentlemen, again, I thank you very much.
