China Grove couple donates to Christmas Happiness because of the positive examples from their parents.

SALISBURY — M.D. and Mary Ann McKnight both grew up in Rowan County and recall the great role models their parents were for them.

The China Grove couple decided to make a contribution to the Christmas Happiness Fund in honor of their mothers and fathers.

“They were both excellent role models for their families and shared their life stories with us,” Mary Ann said.

She said her mother-in-law, Wilma McKnight, always had a Sunday lunch prepared for all four of her children.

Both sets of parents — including Wilma’s husband, Mark, and Mary Ann’s parents, Claude and Ruth Benson — were also great role models for all their grandchildren.

Mary Ann said she and her husband have always given to those in need. She said it’s because of their parents that they have always had the heart to give.

“They were givers,” she said.

Mary Ann said she and her husband like to see children in the community have a great Christmas.

“The true meaning of Christmas should be giving to children,” she said.

Contributions to Christmas Happiness may be delivered to the Salisbury Post, 131 W. Innes St., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays or mailed to Salisbury Post Christmas Happiness Fund, P.O. Box 4639, Salisbury, NC 28145-4639. Make checks payable to Christmas Happiness Fund and indicate how you want your donation listed.
