CHINA GROVE — An 11-year-old girl suffered minor injuries Thursday morning when she was struck by a vehicle while waiting for a school bus, said China Grove Police Chief Andrew Deal.

The accident occurred at 6:40 a.m. after the girl was dropped off by her mother at the intersection of South Main Street and Coach Deal Drive.

While waiting for the school bus, the student darted across the road into oncoming traffic. She was struck by a passenger vehicle.

The girl was taken to the hospital for observation and is expected to be fine, officials said.

The school bus was not at the scene at the time of the accident, Deal said.

Police did not issue a citation in the accident.
