North Rowan’s girls fall to Albemarle

ALBEMARLE — The season’s first road game for the North Rowan girls’ basketball team here Tuesday night saw the Cavaliers rally from a nine-point deficit to take a short-lived third quarter lead.
However, the host Bulldogs quickly rebounded and pulled away for a 47-32 win.
Makiya McDaniel and Natavia Taborn each scored eight points to lead North Rowan (0-1).
Krystin McLendon led three players in double figures for Albemarle (2-1) with 13 points.
Leading by nine points after the first quarter, the Bulldogs missed the first nine shots of the second period, allowing the Cavs to pull to within a point, hitting 6-of-8 at the foul line, along with a Taren Sherrill bucket.
Taborn’s bucket midway through the third quarter put North Rowan up, 23-21, but the Bulldogs ended the period on a 10-0 run to lead by seven after three quarters, 31-24.
Albemarle opened the fourth with a 9-0 run for a 40-24 lead, forcing a North timeout at the 6:38 mark.
The Bulldogs led by as much as 21 points, 47-26, with just over two minutes left, before the Cavaliers scored the final six points of the game.
North Rowan hosts the South Stanly Rebel Bulls (1-0) on Friday night in their home opener.
