Area Sports Briefs: Catawba women lose exhibition at UNCW

Catawba’s women’s basketball team lost at D-I UNC Wilmington on Friday, 74-59, in an exhibition.

Catawba managed a 32-30 halftime lead, but the Seahawks rallied in the third quarter to take charge.

Terri Rogers had 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Indians. Serena Brown scored 12.

Catawba shot 30 percent for the game and was 4-for-16 on 3-pointers. The Indians won the boards, 41-35, but committed 21 turnovers to 13 for UNCW (3-2).

Lacey Suggs came off the bench to score 20 for the Seahawks.

Catawba starts South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday at Queens.
