Area Sports Briefs: Catawba, LC men on road

Catawba’s men’s basketball team seeks its first win tonight at Albany State.

Both teams are 0-2. Albany State has lost to West Florida at Valdosta State.

Livingstone’s men open at highly regarded Queens.

Queens lost to Wake Forest by two points in an exhibition contest and is 3-0 since then.

Livingstone’s women play at home at 6 tonight against Bayamon (Puerto Rico).

Middle school boys

West Rowan  defeated Corriher-Lipe, 54-23.

Noah Loeblein led West (1-2) with 10 points. Josh Noble had eight points, Jason Artis scored seven, and Justin Cole added five.

Corriher-Lipe fell to 0-3.

Erwin won against Knox, 55-44, on Thursday.

Cameron Padgett led the Eagles with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Dylan Valley scored 17.

Erwin plays at West Rowan on Monday.

Middle school girls

Erwin’s girls beat Knox,  60-49.

Mary Spry led Erwin with 13 points. Madie Honeycutt and Hannah Isley scored 12 each. Leah Hinceman scored 11, and Haley Dalton had eight.

Jamecia Huntley paced Knox with 23 points, and Kyla Bryant scored 17.

Spry scored 18 points in Erwin’s 62-28 win against North Rowan.

Prep basketball

East Rowan opens at Central Davidson tonight.

Hickory Ridge’s girls  clobbered Sun Valley, 81-32, on Thursday.

The Bulls were up at halftime, 53-14.

Reigan Richardson (16), Gabby Smith (15) and Nia Daniel (14) led the Bulls.

Amanda Cherry scored 23 for the Spartans.

Erwin girls beat Knox 60-49. Mary Spry led Erwin with 13pts. Maddie Honeycutt 12 Hannah Isley 12 Leah Hinceman 11 Haley Dalton 8. Jamecia Huntley led Knox with 23pts and Kyla Bryant 17.
