SALISBURY — Two men who were shot during last Thursday’s Wells Fargo bank robbery remain in the hospital in stable condition, according to Salisbury Police Department Capt. Sheila Lingle.

Jose Santiago, 61, is in critical but stable condition. Larry Darnell Dalton Jr., 45, is in stable condition.

Both men are at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Police say Santiago was shot inside the Wells Fargo at 866 Jake Alexander Blvd. W.

Police say Dalton was shot on Brenner Avenue when the suspected robber, Paul Jones III, stole Dalton’s vehicle and shot Dalton in the head and arm.

Jones crashed Dalton’s 2015 Acura into two vehicles near the intersection of Jake Alexander Boulevard and Mooresville Road.

He then shot at police officers, who shot and killed Jones while defending themselves, police said.

No police officers were injured.

The three officers who fired their weapons were placed on limited duty while the investigation continues. The State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting.
