LEXINGTON – N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will temporarily re-open the Winston Road ramp to to I-85 Business South, and close the new loop from Winston Road to I-85 Business South, for crews to begin constructing the second phase of the new Winston Road bridge in Lexington.

The ramp is scheduled to re-open on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

“When the new bridge opened to traffic in September, the ramp (located in front of McDonald’s) to I-85 Business South was closed because new travel lanes were several feet higher than the existing ones,” said Division 9 Senior Assistance Resident Engineer Larry Shaver. “The ramp elevation has now been raised and the ramp will be re-opened to the public,” Shaver added.

Once complete, this project will increase traffic flow for motorists traveling from Winston Road to I-85 Business South.

Transportation officials advise drivers to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
