SALISBURY — The Shober Bridge will be closed for approximately 10 weeks while it undergoes age-related maintenance, according to Craig Powers, assistant director of public services for the city.
The bridge, located on Ellis Street, is one of the city’s two remaining timber bridges.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property in 1999 as part of the Ellis Street Graded School Historic District.
Powers said that because the bridge is timber, it requires more regular maintenance than other bridges.
He said support beams and columns will be repaired. To get to the columns, some of the decking will be temporarily removed.
Powers said 10 weeks is an estimated time period and that city officials “hope to be done sooner.”
