Letter: Guide rather than dictate

I have been fortunate to participate in a racial equity workshop led by Al Heggins, as well as be a part of the Stop The Violence Summit that took place over a few months this past spring and summer. In fact, the community participation was so successful that the action plans are still being developed today — it is this sort of action that Al facilitates with aplomb, drawing out the best of people’s skills and personalities to work with others.

At the same time she stands up for the under-represented and oppressed, and for herself as well. She is, indeed, a guide rather than a shadow; a guide rather than a dictator; a guide rather than one who says “Do as I say, not as I do.” She has my vote.
