SPENCER — If Sylvia Chillcott is re-elected to the Spencer Board of Aldermen, it will be her second term. Chillcott, 60, said she’s running because there are still projects in Spencer she wants to tackle.

“In the last year and a half we’ve made tremendous improvements on the town,” she said.

And she doesn’t want to interrupt that streak.

Chillcott referenced the Fourth Street storm water and sewer project — which has been needed for “years and years and years” — and the recent grand opening of Spencer Woods.

“Which was a big project and is finally completed,” she said.

Her number one priority, she said, is making sure that Spencer is a “clean and safe town.”

In the future she wants to be a better representative for the town and to focus on the Park Plaza shopping center. She also hopes to build partnerships with local entities.

“We want to work together with the train museum, they’re an intricate part of the town,” she said.

Chillcott is a recently retired director of public safety for small, private colleges. She now works as a part-time substitute teacher at North Rowan schools.

“Retiring doesn’t slow you down — you’ve got to be doing something,” she said.

Chillcott earned her bachelor’s degree from Catawba College, and is a member of Spencer Presbyterian Church, where she is a church elder, and a member of the Spencer Women’s Club.

She lives with her wife of 3 years and partner of 33 years. The two have raised three children together.
