KANNAPOLIS — N.C. Department of Transportation contractors have opened the new Turkey Road and Shive Road bridges after culvert replacement projects detoured traffic this summer in Rowan County.

“The design of the original bridges was outdated, but now both meet the demands of traffic in the area,” said Larry Shaver, senior assistant resident engineer with the DOT.

Shive Road closed in June; Turkey Road closed in July.

The projects have been part of the DOT’s program to improve the condition of bridges across the state and ensure the safety of drivers who rely on them.
