Third annual Grand Ole GQ Duck Derby is Saturday
GRANITE QUARRY — The annual Granite Quarry Duck Derby is Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. You may purchase ducks from participating businesses in Granite Quarry. Ducks are $10 each.
First Place wins $1,000; Second Place wins $500; Third Place wins $250. Ducks will be sold the day of the race. There will also be raffle prizes throughout the day and a Derby hat contest under the Gazebo at noon.
Granite Park Lake is located on Hwy 52, Granite Quarry. Sponsored by the Granite Quarry Chamber of Commerce.

PPT plans youth auditions and audition workshop
“A Charlie Brown Christmas” by Charles M. Schulz. Audition dates: Oct. 24-25 at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. at the Norvell Theater. 25 spots per time slot, by appointment only. Sign up at 704-633-5471. Prepare 16 bars from a song in the style of the show. Bring sheet music. Performers will be taught a brief dance routine at the start of auditions so please dress accordingly. Show dates: Dec. 7-16.
PPT’s Youth Theatre Audition Workshop: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 21. Prepares students to audition for a musical, specifically “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” Skills developed will be in acting, singing, dancing and auditioning techniques. Norvell Theater, 135 E. Carolina Renaissance Festival returns
Huntersville — During medieval times, the fall harvest season was celebrated by festivals and fairs. This rings true once again for eight consecutive weekends, Sept. 30-Nov. 19, at the Carolina Renaissance Festival. The Festival is located on Highway 73 at Poplar Tent Road (between I-77 and I-85). The Kannapolis fire truck parade and open house plus blood drive
KANNAPOLIS — The Kannapolis Fire Department will host a Fire Truck Parade as part of its Annual Open House, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 30. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. The route will be along Laureate Way and N. Research Campus Drive, between City Hall and the North Carolina Research Campus. Indoor festivities will be in The Laureate Center at City Hall.
The free Open House will focus on the theme “Every Second Counts.” You and your family can receive information on how to make sure you have working smoke alarms, plan home evacuations and prevent fires. There will be emergency vehicles, music, entertainment, rescue helicopters and inflatable games.
The Kannapolis Firefighters’ Assistance Foundation (KFAF) will have hamburgers, hotdogs, and drinks available for purchase. In addition, KFAF will host a silent auction and sell T-shirts. Profits will go to assist local firefighters in need.
In conjunction with the parade and open house, the Kannapolis Fire Department will host a blood drive from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday in The Laureate Center at City Hall. Donors can register by going to www.cbcc.us/mobiledrives and entering Kannapolis Fire Department. Donors must present an official ID before donating.
Be a part of Scrooge’s Christmas Trolley Tour
Lee Street theatre is holding auditions for the 5th annual Scrooge’s Christmas Trolley Tour on Oct. 21-22 from 4-6 p.m. Performances begin Nov. 24.
This dramatic retelling of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” features both comedic and serious moments. Passengers will travel back to Christmases past with Scrooge on his journey via the trolley to see scenes acted out at historic sites downtown.

KHA hosts An Evening With Clyde Waller
KANNAPOLIS— “The History of Music and DJs”
“DJ” Clyde Waller, a 1963 Graduate from A. L. Brown High School and owner/operator of Collectors Choice Records for the past 26 years, will be the speaker at Kannapolis History Associate’s October meeting, and share the history and transition of music from the “teens” (early 1900s) to the present. Waller will be playing music before the meeting and following his presentation he will play more music — and yes, there will be an opportunity to dance.
