Education shoutouts

Merit Scholars

The following local students are semifinalists for the 2018 merit scholarship: Connor and Nicholas Rokos, of Gray Stone Day School; Megan Guzman, of Rowan County Early College and Mary Kaufmann of Salisbury High School.

Scholarship winners

Shirley Trayah and Lizabeht Logan are recent recipients of the Mark A. Hunter Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is offered by the West End Community Organization, West End Pride and the Salisbury Police Department. The one-time scholarship was given in memory of Sergeant Mark A. Hunter, a member of the Salisbury Police Department and an active member of the Salisbury Community.

Trayah is a graduate of Carson High School and attends the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Logan is a graduate of Salisbury High School and attends Chowan University.

Uniform donations were also given to Koontz Elementary School and to Swagga, an after school program held in the West End.
