Preparation continued on Thursday afternoon as food vendors and midway entertainment workers readied the fairgrounds for the 2017 Rowan County Agricultural & Industrial Fair, which opens at 4 p.m. today.
In addition to food booths, rides and exhibits, entertainment over the course of the fair will include a lawnmower pull, demolition derby, livestock shows, fireworks, and a petting zoo.
General admission is $5. Children under 3 feet tall get in free.
The fairgrounds is on Julian Road, between Interstate 85 and Old Concord Road. Parking is $2, which benefits nonprofit groups managing the parking lot.
On weekdays, the fair will open at 4 p.m. and close no later than 11 p.m. On weekends, it will open at 1 p.m. and close at 11 p.m. unless a large number of people are there at that hour.
The last day is Sept. 23.
