SALISBURY — Rowan County Crosby Scholars has established a new scholarship in honor of Alice and Fred Stanback.
The Alice and Fred Stanback Scholarship will be awarded to a Crosby Scholar senior in the Class of 2018.
This one of a kind, four-year scholarship will be given incrementally in the amount of $6,250 per year, to a student who will be attending a four year college or institution, for a total scholarship contribution of $25,000.
The scholarship has been created to honor Fred and Alice Stanback and their generous support of not only Rowan County Crosby Scholars, but all education throughout Rowan County.
The Stanback scholarship will be competitively awarded based upon academic merit, a letter of recommendation, and a written essay.
Crosby Scholar seniors who have an unweighted 3.0 grade point average will be eligible to apply and will be able to do so using their Crosby Scholar portal. Applications for this scholarship will open in the spring of 2018, and the winner will be announced at the Senior Gala at the end of April.
In its first five years, two senior classes of Crosby Scholars have graduated and enrolled in colleges as close as Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and as far away as New York University.
The program has given away over $140,000 in Last Dollar Grants to students with unmet financial need and has awarded more than $20,000 in scholarship monies.
Rowan County Crosby Scholars is a free college access program available to all public middle and high school students. Sixth through 10th graders are encouraged to enroll (or if inactive, re-enroll) in the program through Oct. 1.
