Salisbury’s girls tennis team hasn’t lost a conference match since 2002 and is out to win another league title in a Central Carolina Conference that got a lot more challenging with the addition of North Davidson, Ledford, Central Davidson and South Rowan, four schools that were in bigger classifications last year.
Salisbury (7-1, 6-0 CCC) took care of East Davidson easily at home on Tuesday, winning, 9-0.
Winning for coach Milton Griffith’s Hornets in singles were Maria Capito (6-0, 6-0); Julia Honeycutt (6-0, 6-0); Emma Nianouris (6-0, 6-2), Lilly Rusher (6-0, 6-0), Meredith Burton (6-0, 6-0) and Bethanie Stauffer (6-0,6-0).
The winning doubles teams were Capito/Skye Mowery (8-0); Nianouris/Rusher (8-0) and Burton-Stauffer (8-1).
Salisbury is 160-0 in CCC matches the last 15 seasons. The Hornets lost twice to Lexington in the 2002 season, but they’ve won 298 of their last 300 league matches as members of the CCC, Yadkin Valley Conference or South Piedmont Conference.
Salisbury will play at undefeated North Davidson on Thursday.
