SALISBURY — Salisbury police charged two men with drug possession after a traffic stop Wednesday at South Jackson and West Horah streets.

The men had moonshine, cocaine and marijuana in their possession, officials said.

Police charged Thomas Edwin Brown, 57, of the 900 block of Lincolnton Road, with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle for the sale of controlled substances, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was also cited for having an expired license plate.

John Mark Chambers, 56, of the 600 block of East Liberty Street, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of an open container of alcohol.

Brown, who was driving, was initially stopped for having an expired license plate. When an officer approached the vehicle, Brown was holding a plastic bag containing a white powder substance. The officer told Brown to drop the bag.

The two men were removed from the vehicle and it was searched.

An officer found a briefcase that contained 17 bags of marijuana weighing 33 grams. There were also a pair of digital scales and a strainer with burn marks on it.

Police found 12 plastic bags with 10 grams of powder cocaine, a jar of moonshine, a homemade crack pipe and a small tin container with marijuana blunts inside.

Officials said the moonshine belonged to Chambers.
