PORTLAND, Ore. — Rowan’s girls softball team scored 10 runs in the first inning and went on to a 17-7 win against Cedar City, Utah, in the first round of pool play in the 12U Little League World Series.
Utah fought back within 11-7 after four innings, but Rowan put the game away with a six-run outburst in the top of the fifth.
Rowan had 15 hits, with Kenadi Sproul getting three and Allie Burns, Emma Clarke, Brooke Piper and Brooke Kennerly accounting for two each. Madlelyn VonCanon had a triple.
Clarke scored four runs. Burns and Kennerly drove in three each.
Rowan used three pitchers, with VonCanon pitching 3 2/3 innings and earning the win.
Rowan is back in action today against Canada at 4 p.m. Canada lost to Delaware, 12-0, on Wednesday.
