SALISBURY — A Salisbury couple were robbed and the husband assaulted with a 2-by-4 outside a local motel this week.

Police have charged a Salisbury man in the incident.

Brittany Connell Scott, 33, of the 500 block of Pinewood Avenue, was charged with felony common law robbery, misdemeanor simple assault and misdemeanor injury to personal property. He has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.

Police said the couple, Tina Jackson and Wayne Jenkins, were at the Economy Inn, 319 Bendix Drive, on Tuesday afternoon.

Jackson was approached while her husband was inside the motel. Scott asked Jackson, “Where the girl at?” Jackson said she didn’t know what Scott was talking about. He tried to punch Jackson, police said, but missed.

Scott took the woman’s purse. Police said Jenkins confronted Scott, whom he knew.

Scott ran away, but then returned and threw bricks at the couple’s Jeep Cherokee, breaking the windows. Scott then approached Jenkins, striking him with a 2-by-4, a police report said.

Jenkins was hit on the ear. He managed to take the piece of wood from Scott, who ran from the scene. Officers arrested Scott in the area and found the items from Jackson’s purse — cigarettes, Goody’s headache powder and $10 — in Scott’s pocket.

Scott has prior convictions for misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor second-degree trespassing, misdemeanor drug possession, felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, communicating threats, assault on a female, domestic related charges, resisting arrest and child abuse.
