Childress finishes 27th at Carolinas Junior Championship

CONCORD — Michael Childress, of Salisbury, finished 27th on Thursday at the 68th Carolinas Junior Boys’ Championship at Cabarrus Country Club.
Childress rebounded with a 1-under par 71 yesterday, for a three-round total of 219. Childress, a senior at Cannon School, also shot a 71 on Tuesday, but carded a 77 in Wednesday’s second round.
Childress’ teammate at Cannon, Michael Sanders, won the tournament with a 67 during the final round — four a 9-under par total of 207. Sanders, of Davidson, is also a senior and has committed to LSU.
Concord’s Stephen Carroll, the first round leader with a 66, finished at 212, tied for sixth place. Carroll will be a freshman at East Carolina this fall.
Childress has committed to the University of Richmond.
