Letter: Apology for using wrong word

Published 3:15 pm Tuesday, July 25, 2017

I would like to apologize for my using the word “half-wit” in my letter in Sunday’s Post (“Sick of Russia and Trump bashers”).

It’s  a word I grew up hearing from my father, and after rereading my letter, I am shocked and embarrassed by my insensitivity.

I’ve experienced many examples of those who are mentally challenged — or ill. Some in my own family. My husband was the CEO of a substance abuse/mental health agency in Florida. We well know their pain and the prejudice that still runs rampant in America.

Sometimes in my enthusiasm to make a point, I often go over the top A good lesson has been learned, and I will be more contained in the future.
