Craig Brooks (Catawba) retired all eight batters he faced for the Tennessee Smokies in a Double-A game on Saturday against Mobile.

Brooks struck out three.

In July, Brooks has struck out 15 batters while allowing two hits and no walks.

  Casey Schroeder drove in a season-high three runs to  lead the Kannapolis Intimidators to a 7-2 win over the Columbia Fireflies.

American Legion

Cherryville and Shelby clinched semifinal playoff series on Saturday and the two perennial powers will represent Area IV in the state playoffs in Greenville.

Junior Legion

Host Mocksville defeated defending champ Rutherfordton on Saturday at Rich Park, 8-5.

Concord lost a winners bracket game to South Caldwell, 9-5.

Concord plays Mocksville in an elimination game today at 12:30 p.m.

The two unbeaten teams after two rounds are Morehead City and South Caldwell.
